The Case AMSA chapter offers a unique opportunity for premedical students, where members can experience healthcare delivery in a hospital or clinical setting. Students observe and interact with physicians from neighboring hospitals, giving them a better grasp of the duties and responsibilities involved in medicine. This is insight that they would not necessarily get from volunteer experiences and help students decide whether medicine is the right career choice for them.
The (short) HISTORY of the PSP at Case...

The Case AMSA PSP was started in March 2007 under the direction of Presidents Bradley Eckert and Jennifer Gulas. The idea was first inititated by 2006-2007 Publicity Director Bill Fox. After months of planning and developing, the project was handed over to a full-time Project Director. Aditi Sinha was named to the position in February 2007 and began contacting area physicians to get the program off the ground.
Sinha, now a senior at Case, helped lead the application committee to selecting the first class of students for the program. Twelve AMSA members have been chosen to participate in different rotations with physicians from University Hospitals Case Medical Center. Students were selected on a plethora of factors including AMSA membership status, involvement within the local chapter, previous shadowing experience, scholastic achievements, volunteer experience, and personal essays.
The first two rounds of PSP participants laid the framework for the program to grow in the future. We are excited to have the program finally off the ground and hope to have an even larger group of participants in the spring. To receive an application for entrance into the FALL 2008 class, make sure you're on the AMSA General Body Mailing List. It will be released to our members in September 2008.
